You can have a policy just for yourself (single life) or you could add another person (joint life) to your policy.
There are two ways of doing this;
1) Joint Life - you could add another person to your policy which would mean that whichever of you died first the surviving person would receive an amount of money from the insurer, but then the policy stops.
When a claim is made, some insurance companies will allow you to set up a new application just for the survivor with no additional details required.
2) Single Life - you could have two separate policies one for you and one for the other person.
This can be slightly more expensive to buy than a policy where you are both insured but it does have the advantage of the other person’s policy continuing even though a claim has been made.
This is not advice or recommendation.
