An advertising campaign illustrating the dangers of binge drinking is to be launched by the Home Office.
The campaign's strapline is "You wouldn't start a night like this, so why end it that way?" and shows young people being sick, violent and injuring themselves.
Adverts will also be shown online and will depict the aftermath of a binge-drinking session. One of the online ads aimed at a female audience shows a woman getting into a car with a man she doesn't know.
Talking about the intended effect of the campaign, home secretary, Jacqui Smith, said it would "challenge people to think twice about the serious consequences of losing control".
She continued: "Binge drinking is not only damaging to health but it makes individuals vulnerable to harm."
Chris Allison, licensing spokesman for the Association of Chief Police Officers, spoke to the BBC about the affects of alcohol.
He explained that in addition to leading people to commit crime and become victims of crime, binge drinking also "led to more serious injuries and long-term health damage".
According to an NHS report, hospital admissions linked to alcohol use have more than doubled in England since 1995.
