Founded in 1837, Scottish Provident was bought by the Abbey group in 2000 for £1.8 billion. Late in 2004, the Spanish Bank Banco Santander acquired the Abbey group. In June 2006 Resolution plc announced their intention to buy the life insurance businesses of Abbey National for £3.6billion.
Resolution has in the region of 7 million in-force customer and combined life company invested assets of over £63 billion.
